Agnes Verdun has been a Mid-City resident for over 40 years. Realizing long ago that good health and its restoration is not always found in a prescription drug bottle she started a journey that led her to find the best and most effective herbal remedies for many chronic and serious diseases. Motivated by her many friends who suffered from cancers that weren’t being effectively treated by prescription drugs, she propelled herself into action, invested time and money, and enrolled in numerous seminars and classes in herbal remedies conducted by experts such as Richard Schultz and Dr. John Christopher. Agnes researched, collected and read books on her subject and began to experiment with her own formulas focusing on ailments she heard the most complaints about and of course her number one concern - cancer. Agnes used herself to test her formulas before recommending the herbal treatments to her family, friends and neighbors. Now after 20 years of knowledge she is definitely known as the trusted resident expert. Agnes, our resident neighborhood treasure, is doing her part in helping to keep America healthy – one community at a time. For more info email:

10 surprisingly unhealthy kids' foods, and their healthier alternatives
Monday, 01 March 2010 23:48
Gina Roberts-Grey
Few parents set out to feed their kids the unhealthy foods that may contribute to childhood obesity. But experts say many of the deceptively healthy foods parents toss in their carts should be left on the grocery store shelves.
Kid's yogurt March says this is the equivalent of sprinkling lots of sugar and candy on top of a cup of steamed broccoli. "All the sugar that's in many brands turns something that's full of calcium, protein, vitamin D, and magnesium into dessert." The biggest offenders: yogurt "fun foods."
"Read the labels of yogurt in plastic tubes that are meant to be frozen and thrown into kids' lunchboxes. After the first ingredient, which as hoped for, is milk, come high fructose corn syrup and sugar, artificial flavorings and colors," says March.
A better option: March suggests staying wholesome by staying simple. "Freeze any wholesome real yogurt and put in your kid's knapsack. You'll ditch all the additives and send him to school with a truly healthy treat."

Acupuncture May Ease Chronic Back Pain
Thursday, 07 January 2010 21:32
Jennifer Dubowsky, L.Ac., MSOM
Back pain is one of the most prevalent reasons people seek health care. Millions of working days and countless hours of activity and fun are lost each year due to back pain.
Common Causes of Back Pain
One of the top causes of back pain are sprains (overstretching one or more of the ligaments in the back) and strains (a rip or tear in the muscle caused by sudden force). This can happen from an injury, poor posture, or improper lifting.
Another source of back pain comes from a herniated disc which is a disc that bulges out from its place between two vertebrae. Sciatica is another common form of back pain.
Sciatica is a term used to describe pain that extends down into the buttocks and leg which comes from an irritation of a larger nerve in the lumbar spine called the sciatic nerve. Sciatica can accompany sprains, strains, herniated discs as well as back pain emanating from other sources.
Traditional Chinese Medicine's (TCM) vocabulary is very different from Western medicine. TCM differentiates patterns of back pain.

Cure The Common Cold. Garlic!
Wednesday, 09 December 2009 23:41
Dianne Lawrence
At the first sign of a scratchy throat or the sniffels, I take my garlic cloves, chop three up, mix with some hummus and have a snack. I do this three times a day for about three or four days. The cold never takes hold. I went on the net and found some info about the amazing healing power of the humble garlic clove....
"A clove of raw garlic has long been a traditional home-cure for colds. UK scientists this week reveal strong evidence to suggest that people who take a garlic supplement each day are much less likely to fall victim to the common cold than those who do not. Researchers, led by Peter Josling, at the Garlic Centre, East Sussex carried out a study on 146 volunteers. They found that a daily garlic supplement containing allicin, a purified component of garlic considered to be the major biologically active agent produced by the plant, reduced the risk of catching a cold by more than half. Half took one capsule of Allimax, an allicin-containing garlic supplement, each day, while the remaining volunteers were given a placebo. Over a 90-day period during the winter when most colds occur, just 24 colds were recorded among those taking the supplement, compared to 65 amongst those taking the placebo. The study also found that those taking the supplement who did catch a cold were more likely to make a quicker recovery than those taking the placebo and the chances of re-infection following a cold were significantly reduced. The common cold is the most widespread viral infection in the world with each person suffering between two and five colds each year."

How to avoid getting the flu

This is such good news. I hate shots and taking medicines if they are not necessary. It is so refreshing to know something that people can do in advance to help keep themselves safe. Thank you so much for that information. I hope that everyone will follow this procedure and we may all continue to enjoy good health. It is surely cheap enough.
