Located on Adams, just east of Hauser, Vees Cafe offers so much more than great coffee - and it does offer great coffee. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food always incorporates fresh ingredients in tasty combinations.
For breakfast, my dog likes to accompany me on the walk to Vees to sit at one of the outdoor tables, where I enjoy a Breakfast Burrito or a thick fruit smoothie. For lunch and dinner, I’m often on the run and keep Vees menu in my car. I phone in my order and it’s ready for pick-up in less than ten minutes. The paninis are especially scrumptious - fresh bread that is grilled to make it crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The tastily rich Caprese Grill, like the un-grilled Caprese Sandwich, is full of fresh buffalo mozzarella, basil, and perfect tomatoes. For a spicier kick, the Spicy Chicken Panini has a yummy homemade jalapeno dressing, avocado, provolone, lettuce, and tomato. There are more traditional options like tuna salad or turkey melt as well. And every sandwich comes with a side salad (though you might want to ask for extra dressing).

Muriel' Gourmet Soul Food

Our community finally has the good home cooking, sit down, friendly, meet your neighbors, soul food restaurant we deserve!
Chef Muriel is expanding her successful catering business. Along with partners Janet Dansby and brother William Freeman, they have opened “Muriel’ Of Course” a gourmet soul food restaurant. Another feather in our Washington Boulevard cap!
An oft-heard comment about The Original Chulada Grill is “Why didn’t I try this place before?”.
You know the place, with the brown striped awning on San Vicente at Hauser across from Baskin-Robbins. The Chulada Grill has everything required of a good Mexican restaurant with almost 100 tasty and reasonably priced items on the menu and good parking for fast in and out take-away.

SUSHI!!

Located on Adams just east of Normandie, Sushi Delight is well-known to USC students for its good and inexpensive sushi, sashimi, udon, teriyaki, tempura and more. Where to begin with so many attractive selections for lunch and dinner at this bright and contemporary cafe? I could dine here every day for the next two months and still not work my way through all the choices: Dragon roll, Ninja roll, Dynamite roll, King Kong roll and on and on. And OMG -- Bento Boxes at $7.99! Kids and adults will love these. What a deal on party platters too! And goyza! Yes, goyza in our neighborhood!

How do you say “great family restaurant” in Ethiopian?
This casual, local restaurant across from the Nate Holden Center is terrific for children or for a fun adult meal. Moms will like the healthy food choices and low-key atmosphere and kids will appreciate eating with their hands off big communal trays with the classic Injera bread. Educational too! Gracious owners, Mekonnen Feleke and his wife Alen, are happy to share information about their homeland or discuss the decorations. I took a friend who had eaten in Ethiopia with an honest-to-God Ethiopian princess. She thought the cuisine was very tasty, authentic and, most importantly, less expensive than the Ethiopian restaurants on Fairfax. I recommend the vegetarian or chicken/beef sampler platters. The hors d’oeuvres and desserts were delicious, too. Check out the $12 Sunday lunch buffet and the Ethiopian coffee and tea. Yay! Another affordable, informal, interesting restaurant in our neighborhood! Support it!
