United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (UNNC) July 2010 report

A concern over a push by local developers to become more of a force on the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (UNNC) had local residents rallying.  Their aggressive outreach with flyer’s and recommendation sheets paid off with a record turnout, (placing them in the top ten turnouts citywide) and with all of their recommendations elected. Out of the 6 UNNC areas, Area 2, Harvard Heights and West Adams Heights/Sugar Hill, had the largest turnout.

Mid City Neighborhood Council (MINC) July Report 2010

MINC elections turned out well. According to President Allan DiCastro 80% of their email outreach showed up to vote. Most recently MINC nominated and elected their new board members.

Pico Neighborhood Council (P.I.C.O.) July 2010 Report

On July 14, the P.I.C.O. Neighborhood Council (PNC) began their special meeting with a goal: finish the special meeting held to appoint two new board members and get to the general meeting.  But first they had to be in compliance with the meeting notice requirement of California’s Brown Act.

Olympic Park Neighborhood (OPNC) Council July 2010 Report

Frustration permeated the room at two recent Olympic Park Neighborhood Council (OPNC) meetings. OPNC President Peter Schulberg was eager to conduct business including the swearing in of new members, at a July 12 emergency meeting, the group’s second attempt in a two-month period. However, the board had its hands tied because the meeting still could not  reach a quorum –half the members plus one. Of 18 OPNC board seats, at least 10 members must be present.

Dear Stakeholders, Board Members, Neighbors and Friends,

As of July 15th, I will be passing the baton of the presidency to my successors, MaryAnn Yurkonis and Claudia Bayard.  It’s hard to believe how quickly 4 years have flown by.  In January of 2006, 18 of us huddled together and took our oath as bright-eyed board members.  We rolled up our sleeves and embarked on a journey to better the organization of which we were eager to be a part.  There was a lot of work to do.  There were challenges and triumphs along the way and now we are a better organization for it.  As I look back on the distance we have traveled, I can honestly say we have a lot to be proud of. Here's an idea of what we have achieved since 2006.
