DWP Issues New Lawn Watering Rules
Saturday, 24 July 2010 11:51
Submitted by Wendy Fratecelli
Residents would be able to turn on their sprinklers three days a week -- as opposed to just two days -- under a new water rationing schedule approved today by the LA Board of Water and Power Commissioners.
The City Council still has to sign off on the plan before it can be implemented. Because of the extended drought, DWP customers are currently only allowed to irrigate their lawns for up to 15 minutes each Monday and Thursday, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

July 1st, 2010 (LOS ANGELES) – In her continued attempt to reduce the City’s budget deficit, City Controller Wendy Greuel released her audit today of the City’s billings and collections practices, which found that for the Departments sampled, only 53% of the City’s bills were collected. “In three years since the previous audit was released, the City has gone from a 52% collections rate to a 53% collections rate – that’s not acceptable,” said City Controller Wendy Greuel.“Collecting more money wouldn’t close the entire budget deficit, but it would help save the City money and protect critical services for Angelenos.”

MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA AND GOLDMAN SACHS JOIN TOGETHER TO LAUNCH 10,000
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Villaraigosa announced that Los Angeles would join The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative. The initiative will drive economic growth and create jobs by providing $20 million in small business loans and by subsidizing business education.
“I am proud of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Business Policy’s work in bringing Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Business Initiative to Los Angeles, since our number one priority is getting the people of Los Angeles back to work,” Mayor Villaraigosa said. “Not only will this investment set in motion job creation at the most grassroots level, but it will have a real impact on the lives of the 70% of Angelenos that are employed by small businesses by granting them the opportunity to expand their entrepreneurial enterprise through education, loans, and networking.”

L.A. council bans most official travel to Arizona
Thursday, 13 May 2010 08:44
Phil Willon, Los Angeles Times
Members, arguing that the new immigration law could lead to racial profiling, also vote to bar future city contracts with companies in that state.
The Los Angeles City Council, protesting Arizona's tough crackdown on illegal immigration, voted Wednesday to ban most city travel to Arizona and future contracts with companies in that state. Council members argued that a new Arizona law, which will make it a state crime to lack immigration papers and requires police to determine whether people they stop are in the country illegally, would lead to racial profiling and discrimination. The law takes effect July 23.
