In June of 2014, we reported that the Tom Bradley Family Center was on the chopping block  along with three other family centers, due to a recommendation from the Housing Department as a result of budgetary concerns.

Councilman Wesson stepped in and the Tom Bradley got a reprieve for a year or two.  The center assists low income residents by providing a host of resources (including a vegan food giveaway every Thursday) and is run by its deeply committed and resourceful director Tony Nicholas.

Rumor had it that the Centers' time was up by the end of May but a recent phone call to Mr. Nicholas revealed that they had been given yet another reprieve of 6 months while the city continues its search to find a non profit to take over and help pay for the cost of keeping the center open.   "We'll see what happens in 6 months. I have faith that funds are available somewhere.  In the meantime we are going to spend the 6 months beefing up our programs and outreach,"  promised the ever confident Mr. Nicholas.   Stay Tuned!
