Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles has closed its location in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles that once served President Barack Obama.

The chain had planned to close the restaurant at 5006 W Pico Blvd. and reopen at a larger spot a couple of blocks away since 2019, according to a Facebook post. That plan has finally been completed.

The soul food chain is referring its customers to the restaurant at 1865 S La Brea Ave.

It broke the news over the weekend with a photo montage on Instagram.

Founded by Herb Hudson in 1975, Roscoe’s has six locations in Los Angeles County and one in Anaheim.

The presidential visit occurred on Oct. 24, 2011 when Obama was on a West Coast trip and stopped by en route to a round of fundraisers with celebrity guests that included Will Smith, Antonio Banderas and Eva Longoria.

In the restaurant he greeted diners and ordered the No. 9, three wings and two waffles, which is now called the Obama Special. He was joined in the restaurant by then-U.S. Rep. Karen Bass, who is now mayor of Los Angeles.
