Jefferson Park Man Gunned Down. Reward Offered

Los Angeles police said Wednesday that a $50,000 reward will be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for the slaying of a 51-year-old man in Jefferson Park.

Mario De Leon Rivera was gunned down March 23 as he was walking near 29th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Witnesses told police that a gunman opened fire as De Leon Rivera was walking with his wife. The bullet was intended for a man who was behind the couple, police said.

At least 28 homicides have been reported in Jefferson Park since January 2007, according to The Times' Homicide Report.

The reward, offered by Councilman Herb Wesson, will be announced during a news conference Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at 4128 W. 29th Street, near the crime scene.

Anyone with information about the slaying is asked to call (877) LAPD 24-7.
